2021 MTNA Studio Festival Participants

Congratulations to RSM student, Kaylin Herron, for her participation in the 2021 Howard County Chapter MTNA Studio Festival. Kaylin performed on the cello and received a superior minus rating.

MTNA Studio Festival Details: RSM is an active member of the National Music Teacher’s Association and the Maryland State Music Teacher’s Association. Each year, RSM hosts the MTNA studio festival. The guidelines are as follows:

  1. All pieces must be memorized including musicianship phases.
  2. Each student appears before the experienced MTNA examiner at the appointed time.
  3. Every year a student participates in the Festival, he/she will receive the following rewards:
  • A Certificate according to classification and grading.
  • A MTNA studio festival Pin or Medallion according to entry level and grading.
  • Analysis Chart and Report Card signed by the MTNA examiner.

Maryland State Music Teachers Association (MSMTA) is a branch of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). MTNA is dedicated to advancing the value of music study and music making. The association strives to provide the latest methods, exams and information on music education.

Congratulations RSM student, Terrence Tam for receiving honorable mention in the 2020 MSMTA Spring Piano Festival Competition. The MSMTA Spring Festival Piano Competition is an annual event in which students perform two pieces from different periods. Way to go Terrence.

  1. All pieces must be memorized.
  2. Performance of 1 to 20 memorized pieces (and Musicianship Phases).
  3. Each student appears before the experienced MTNA examiner at the appointed time.
  4. Every year a student participates in the Festival, he/she will receive the following rewards:
  • A Certificate according to classification and grading.
  • A MTNA studio festival Pin or Medallion according to entry level and grading.
  • Analysis Chart and Report Card signed by the MTNA examiner.

2019 Piano Guild Participants

Piano Guild Details: RSM is an active member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers and a Sponsor-Member of the National Fraternity of Student Musicians (NFSM). We desire to have all our piano students qualify for NFSM Membership by participating in the National Piano Guild Auditions as follows: 1. Participation in Guild Auditions in the memorized classification. 2. Performance of 1 to 20 memorized pieces (and Musicianship Phases) for entry in the non- competitive Annual National Piano Playing Auditions (optional competition category). 3. Each student appears before the experienced Guild examiner at the appointed time. Since Guild Auditions are considered a legitimate excuse for school absence, parents may request permission from school authorities for their children to be excused to perform in the National Piano Playing Auditions. (A form letter is available). 4. Every year a student enters Auditions, he/she will receive the following rewards:

  • A Membership Certificate according to classification.
  • An NFSM Membership Pin in Bronze (Pledge, Local and District), Silver (State), or Gold (National or International). Hobbyist and Ensemble students receive a bronze pin.
  • Analysis Chart and Report Card signed by the Guild examiner.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to RSM student, Anika Sinha, who was selected to participate in the National Juniors Honors Choir. She will be performing at the Royal Festival Hall in London this summer. She was selected after a nationwide audition in which she had to submit two recorded songs. Anika will also participate in the Women’s Gifted and Talented (GT) Ensemble next year when she starts high school. Way to go Anika!
